    fate
"My mother believed in God's will for many years. It was as if she had turned on a celestial faucet and goodness kept pouring out. She said it was faith that kept all these good things coming our way, only I thought she said "fate," because she couldn't pronounce that "th" sound in "faith."

And later, I discovered that maybe it was fate all along, that faith was just an illusion that somehow you're in control. I found out the most I could have was hope, and with that I was not denying any possibility, good or bad. I was just saying, If there is a choice, dear God or whatever you are, here's where the odds should be placed."

    new books and american idol
I had some time to kill yesterday, and so I went to the giant barnes and noble by my work, grabbed a zuka and parused.

I walked out with two books:

I've been wanting to read history of god for ages and ages and ages. It's written by a former nun, and if it's good I am interested in reading her other books too. Most are histories of specific religions, like buddism and islam. One is a biography of hers as well, which sounds super intersting.
The amy tan book just kind of spoke to me, i started reading it in the store and HAD to pick it up.
    -----

ok onto american idol. what the hell were they thinking having yamine BUTCHER a u2 song. BUTCHER it. i wanted to run screaming and tear off my ears. thank goodness mary J came in and rescued it. leave the u2 songs to bono and kurt (norwegian's first idol, he actually can sing and did quite well covering a handful of u2 songs, i have mp3s if anyone wants)

i have to say the highlight of the evening was prince. i love him. its so funny, if he were in any other busniess that the rock star business hed never be taken seriously. but he fits in quite well in the crazy music industry, and theres just something magnetic about him....plus i love his music.

I must say i am quite sad that the only appearence kelly clarkson made was a song on a ford commercial. she rocks when she signs! she always gives me chills. but thats ok, i can understand why shes trying to distance herself from the show and gain some credibility.

Oh, and that poor guy that they had on when clay was singing. he couldnt take the hint that they wanted him off stage. they turned his mike down, AND then seacret had to come over and politely usher him off. poor kid.

all in all it was an entertaining two hours.

    disappointment
so yesterday i slept all day, literally. it was great. i came home, i fell asleep. i woke up for two hours to talk to norway boy and eat chili, and then went back to bed.

so this morning i woke up, thinking hmm the days gonna be good and decided to treat myself to a new mocha banana frap.

    See it looks good, right???

its not. its GROSS. i was SO disappointed. i was looking forward to it because the 2 storey coffee house on 4th in utah had a banana frap type thing, and it was sooo good. starbucks needs to learn to cut back on their syrup by about half, that more isnt always better.

    angels and oprah
so i was watching oprah today and she had this story

long story short: boy wakes up, sees his daddy stabbing his mother to death, then his dad stabs him repeatedly and leaves him for dead. hes surivives. oprah asks him how he knew what to do, and he said "the angels told me to play dead, and then the angels lifted me up to the phone and had me call 911"

it just really touched me, and made me remember that miracles do happen, and perhaps the angels are there for me as well.

    dress shopping!!!!!!!
so my sister jessica has prom next week, she wanted me to go dress shopping wit her. i actually had quite a bit of fun with her. i picked her up from her work and we went to tjmaxx. it ended up being a bust, but it was worth it due to the "cannon-ball-with-ruffles" dress (her words not mine). we both got the giggles when she tried that dress on.

so we headed up to the spectrum. its a beauitful outdoor mall, moroccan themed. they have glowing stars in the pavement and really cool arcticture. and a 2 story barnes and noble.

we went to torrid. i was actually impressed with the stuff they had there. super cute. one thing that bothered me though were the mannequins were smaller than i am. and they dont even carry my size in most stuff!!! they do in panties though, which i will definately be returning for. (i am an underwear whore. its quite amazing really)

we ended up getting this dress:

it looked AMAZING. super cute. it looked like it was custom made to fit her perfectly. i was happy.

so then we went to eat, and then we went to barnes and noble. we went to get coffee, because a trip to barnes and noble is not complete without coffee.

it made me remember why i hate going to starbucks at barnes and noble. the employees dont know what the hell they are doing. the poor kid could NOT get our order right. i ordered a decaf, and jessica wanted a banana coconut frap, which they had advertised up the wazoooo there. well guess what, doesnt come out for another week. why adversite it then? so jessica orders a mocha frap. "for here or to go?" "to go." "so a carmel and a mocha frappucino?" no. one drip decaf, one mocha frap, no whip. "for here or to go?" to go. oh and a chocolate chip cookie. "for here or to do go?" to go. still, to go. so then we look at the reciept. one cookie, one carmel frap, one mocha frap. *slaps forehead* she gets her money back that they over charge her while i wait to intervene with the no whip, because they NEVER remember. i intervene just in time, then the girl spills the drink (fine, no biggie, i spill all the time,) she offers to remake it. remakes it, we get it go sit down, they forgot to put the chocolate in it. we gave up though.

as if that wasnt bad enough i had to pee. super badly. so i go to the bathroom. the thing looks like 10 college boys are living there. tp and paper towels EVERYWHERE. i go to use the toilet, somebody has peed all over the seat. *sigh*

so i gave up and held my bladder. jessica and i had super fun looking through all the books. i am SUCH a nerd and could spend hours there. which we did. we had tons of fun :D

jessica ended up buying these two books (the oates one was my reccommendation):

from intellectual to the absolutely stupid.

ok so it looks like a trashy guilty pleasure read. but i still want to read it!!!!

ive read two other of her books and loved them, this is her latest.

martha beck is amazing. read anything with her name on it!!!!

laruen slater's other book is amazing. and i love psychology and the inner workings of human's minds and finding out why we do things we do.

saw it at the bookstore and it intruiged me. (yes, sadly, i DO judge a book by its cover...)

im super interested in religion and history of religion.

ive been meaning to read this for years.....
